Fishtrap Preserve
The
Fishtrap Preserve was acquired by ORLT in 2002 and protects 80 acres of
impressive bluffs and oak/shortleaf pine forests along the Huzzah Creek
in Crawford County, Missouri.
The property is bordered by about one-quarter mile of the Huzzah
and adjoins a contiguous block of about 2,000 acres of the Mark Twain
National Forest.
The
80 foot high dolomite bluff offers very scenic views of Huzzah Creek and
the rolling Ozark hills beyond.
A spring-fed tributary flows through the preserve to the Huzzah,
forming a deep hollow thought to have been used by Native Americans as
an area for trapping fish.
A small, high-quality fen also occurs along the creek.
